Cumberland Ford & The Wilderness Road (1781)
Long before bridges spanned the Cumberland River, pioneers traveling Daniel Boone's Wilderness Road crossed at Cumberland Ford — the shallow water gap through Pine Mountain where Pineville stands today. Established in 1781, Pineville serves as the historic county seat of Bell County.
The Legend of Chained Rock & Laurel Festival
In June 1933, locals hauled a 101-foot iron steam-shovel chain up Pine Mountain to 'chain' the towering sandstone boulder above town, creating one of Appalachia's most famous landmarks alongside the annual Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival.
